Don’t stretch

Stretching: The Truth” by Gretchen Reynolds in The New York Times 2008-10-31

The old presumption that holding a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds — known as static stretching — primes muscles for a workout is dead wrong. It actually weakens them.

Instead, start with a light five minute warmup followed by some dynamic stretching.
