Somebody had a bad week

We Blew It: A look back in remorse on the conservative opportunity that was squandered” by P J O’Rourke in The Weekly Standard 2008-11-17

Let us bend over and kiss our ass goodbye.

Get a pro-life friend drunk to the truth-telling stage and ask him what happens if his 14-year-old gets knocked up.

For what we will spend on the Farm, Nutrition and Bioenergy Act of 2008 we could have avoided the war in Iraq and simply bought a controlling interest in Saddam Hussein’s country.

Very cranky and great fun to read.

  1. Funny as hell, even though it had me growling every time I wasn’t laughing (or wincing).

    But talk about yer bias!

I suspect there are about as many bad or stupid Republicans as there are stupid or bad Democrats. We – each of our “sides” – don’t police our fellow partisan’s activity, or even our own behavior. This is not any more surprising than that the Unitarians don’t tell the Zionists (or the Methodists the Baptists) to knock off the bullshit and quit fucking with scripture.

So what’s needed here is not genetic cleansing of Democrats, or a eugenics program for Republicans, but some public self-evaluation and a self bitch-slapping and a whole lot of humble pie-eating, followed by a requirement that we clean up our plates, wash the dishes, do our homework, and then go to straight to bed. Starting NOW, buster!

And can we drop a few of those stereotypes and caricatures of the party we love to hate, and just offer and ask for a little decency and politeness? We’ve got a hard enough time ahead without a lot of gratuitous and ad hominem mudslinging (even when somewhat deserved, which is all I’ll admit to).
